Dermal Fillers are non-animal natural substances (clear natural gels found in the skin) which exist as structural elements already in your skin. They work by pushing up under the wrinkle or scar, thereby restoring a smoother, flatter skin contour – or plumping the lips to the desired degree for that fully kissable look. The gels are naturally integrated into the skin and will in time re-absorb. Skinovate is renowned in Melbourne for keeping you looking natural while improving your concerns.
Dermal Fillers can be permanent or non-permanent depending on your needs. Typical wrinkle reduction is between 40% and 80% at our skin clinic. Let us help you choose the correct dermal filler for you.
Our many years of experience will help you decide what amount is best for you but every face can have at least 0.5 ml of dermal filler placed for some cosmetic enhancement. Some lips need only 0.5 ml and some will take 1ml. Often it is best to have 0.5 ml the first session then review the results a few weeks later and decide of you want more or not. Human nature dictates that most people do want more but we will help you keep it in perspective as our motto says, enhance your natural appearance.
Dermal Fillers can be used to treat:
- ear lobe creases
- cheeks and bags under the eyes
- acne scars
- depressions or pockmarks
- chickenpox scars
- skin graft scars
- sunken or depressed scars caused by injury
- deep smile lines
- deep neck lines
- frown lines
- smoker’s lines (vertical lines on the top lip)
- marionette lines (at the corner of the mouth)
- worry lines (across the forehead)
- the definition of the lip border
- chin and jaw area for strengthening the face
- nose shape issues, the 10 minute nose job, smooth out bumps
- any indentation of the skin or area that needs enhancement
How Long Do They Last?
Dermal Filler wrinkle treatments will last for over 1 year in fine lines and folds and 2 years in acne scars. The thicker versions available last approx. 14-16 months in the lip borders, 10 months in the pink part of the lips and 18-24 months in the deeper folds.
Sounds a little complex but different parts of your face respond differently due to skin thickness and the depth of where the filler is actually placed, as well as some individual variation but the above is a good guide.
What Precaution Should Be Taken?
Dermal Fillers should not be used on or near sites of active skin disease or infection and must be administered by, or under the supervision of a nurse or doctor specifically trained in its use.
The area treated should not be exposed to extreme heat (e.g. solarium or sunbathing) until the initial swelling and redness has resolved. Exercise on the day of treatment is not recommended.
How Is The Treatment Administered?
A fine disposable sterile needle is used to inject the gel. Treatment usually takes about 10 minutes. Lip treatments are almost painless because the thin skin of the lip absorbs the numbing cream so well and the needle is now so very fine that we rarely have to use a local anaesthetic “dental” block.
After your first dermal filler injection, the therapist will want to see you again in two to three weeks to assess your results and possibly put final touches on the treatment if required. We are very fussy!
What Are The Side Effects of Dermal Filler Injections?
After the treatment, some common injection-related reactions may occur:
- Redness: 1-2 hrs
- Puffiness: 4-8 hrs
- Discolouration: rare
- Bruising: Uncommon, coverable by make-up.
- Pimple: rare
- Lumpiness: Very rare. Lumps can be massaged to reduce their size.
- Sensitivity to the numbing cream: the cream is optional.
